See U
See U was a temporary occupation project of the former Fritz Toussaint barracks in Ixelles, managed by Pali-Pali and Dside. Pali-Pali, an “accelerator for cultural, social and solidarity-based projects,” joined forces with Dside to combine community activation and event expertise in a shared vision of urban regeneration.
As part of a broader initiative to bring new life to the city, See U hosted over 200 project holders between 2018 and 2022, transforming this historic site into a vibrant ecosystem of creativity and experimentation. More than a location, See U was a concept a living laboratory that encouraged collaboration, innovation, and reflection on the city of tomorrow. Among its many initiatives, a temporary wooden velodrome was built to question the role of urban mobility in sustainable development. The projects launched at See U were guided by a spirit of discovery and social impact, envisioning a future that is both inclusive and environmentally conscious.
Ultimately, See U served as a prototype and inspiration for the site’s permanent redevelopment “Usquare.brussels”, illustrating how temporary use can shape long-term urban transformation.
